Signs my doctor missed my cancer

On Behalf of | Aug 13, 2021 | Medical Malpractice

In some ways, coming up with a diagnosis is equal parts art and science. While a disease like cancer may have certain hallmarks, each patient can present slightly differently.

Regardless of the nuances that come with practicing medicine, your doctor has an obligation to look at your symptoms carefully and come up with an accurate diagnosis. Unfortunately, doctors can still miss a diagnosis, even after looking at all of your symptoms.

In some cases, one diagnosis could be wrong, and you need to seek a second opinion. These are some of the symptoms of cancer you should not ignore.

Fever

A fever is the body’s way of using heat to treat something wrong with the body. A fever is a sign of many illnesses like colds, cases of flu and infections. In these cases, the fever will either subside on its own or with simple treatment.

When you have a persistent fever, it could be a sign that something else is wrong. In some cases, a persistent fever could be a sign of cancer.

Pain

Pain is another way that you know something is wrong with your body. There is a long list of diagnoses with pain in the list of symptoms, but that does not mean you should ignore it.

Persistent pain can be another sign of cancer. It is essential to talk to your doctor about your pain and what is causing it. In some cases, you can feel pain in one area but have cancer in another place.

Getting a second opinion

When you are unsure of your doctor’s diagnosis, it is essential to act right away. You may feel some hesitation or worry that your doctor will be offended that you went to someone else.

Keep in mind, doctors give second opinions frequently. For many, it is a routine part of their practice. You need to advocate for your health, especially when you have persistent, unresolved symptoms.
